FAQ

What is synesthesia?

Synesthesia is an involuntary neurological condition that produces a sensory experience. For example, sounds and music are translated as physical colors and movements.

  • It could grouped with people who are color blind, or have perfect pitch. Most people don't have it, and most poeple might not fully comprehend what their experience is like. It doesn't get in the way of life, because it's all they have known, it's normal for them.

How many forms of synesthesia exist?

There are about 80 different forms! I experience 3 of them.

  • 1. Chromesthesia: sounds and music have color, shape, and movement.
  • 2. Grapheme-Color: some letters and numbers have color attached to it.
  • 3. Spatial-Sequence: time has a specific color, place in space, and sometimes a shape.
  • Since synesthesia is the blending of senses, other forms can include sounds have taste, letters and numbers have personalities, or feeling a touch when seeing someone else being touched, and so much more.

Do the songs ever change shape or color?

The overall look of a song is the same, but my moood or strong/signficant events or memories can alter it slightly.

  • The same way if you first heard a song on a sad, rainy day, you might always associate that song with those feelings or that memory. If that song was played during your favorite trip, or a special day, then it might produce different feelings.

What is your process for painting a song?

I listen to the song over and over again until I feel I have produced the best representation of the song.

  • I start out by listening to the song with noise canceling headphones, normally with my eyes closed so I am not distracted by my other senses. I listen a couple of times until I feel like I have a good idea of what to do. Sometimes I may draw out outlines or sketches, but otherwise I will listen again to pick out the right color of paints. Then I start painting! I listen to it as much as I need to until it's been captured on the canvas.

How long will it take to get my artwork?

It may take up to a week to process and ship your order. However, it might take slightly longer to safely package and ship an original piece.
