As a ‘Synesthete,’ Amber Andersen possesses an ability that exists in only 3-5 percent of the population, although that percentage is higher among artists. Thus, she clearly perceives visual imagery in response to sounds. Beyond just her synesthetic abilities, however, Amber implements that ability as an extremely talented artist. My painting is her visualization of Sting’s Fields of Gold. I love the overall beauty of this painting. I am especially attracted to the multiple wavy lines painted in gold, because they are an amazingly close approximation to the type of waveforms that I recorded in my research of the auditory brainstem frequency-following response (FFR).
